CSAL
Tournament Information
After
the regular six-week season, CSAL conducts a single-elimination
tournament. All teams are included (unless
requested prior to week 3) and are randomly placed in the bracket. The tournament bracket is included with this mailing. The details of the tournament are as follows:
1. Each
team will provide a CSAL-trained moderator/judge (who has moderated/judged at
least 3 matches in the current season) for each match they play (except for the
final match – see item 6 below).
2. For
each round, groups of four (or six) teams will meet at “host” schools (as
indicated by an ‘(H)’ on the bracket). To
determine where your team will play, note the capital letter next to your
team’s name. The school with the same
letter and ‘(H)’ next to it is your “host” school. Hosting responsibilities in the first two
rounds are shared amongst all teams, with most schools hosting every other
year. Hosting in the later rounds is
determined by what schools advance to that point. Hosting of the semi-final and final rounds is
rotated and determined in advance.
3.
Each team will play one match per round.
Moderator/judges will read for two teams they have no ties to. Each team must have their overtime
questions.
3. Each host school must supply a Chief
Official, someone familiar with CSAL Quick Recall rules as stated on page 16
and 17 of the CSAL Manual. Please
email csalqr@hotmail.com with the Chief
Official’s name prior to the tournament round.
If the host school does not have someone they feel is qualified,
then they may ask a visiting school to supply someone who is not connected with
the team to be the Chief Official.
4. The
Chief Official and the four (or six) moderator/judges will preview the
questions together before the matches beginning at 3:00pm.
5.
The two (or three) matches of each round will be held simultaneously at
3:30pm. The host school must provide two (or three) classrooms (or spaces) for
the matches, in addition to two (or three) buzzer systems and operators for each. The host school may ask visiting schools to
bring their buzzer system to the site, along with someone to operate the
system. Coaches are expected to
communicate and resolve equipment issues prior
to the tournament matches. If
requesting equipment, please be specific as to the equipment needed (hard
drive, tackle box, whole setup etc.).
Having an extra buzzer system is strongly encouraged, in order to
prevent delays in the event of equipment malfunction.
6. The
semi-final and final rounds of the tournament are held on the same date, in the
evening. CSAL will provide officials and
for the final match. Immediately
following the final match, trophies for the tournament (winner and runner-up)
will be awarded. Trophies for the teams
with the best regular-season record in each division will be handed out as
well. These division winners will be
noted on the results page of our website one week after the regular season and
those teams are encouraged to attend the evening to receive their trophy.
7.
All CSAL Quick Recall rules are in effect for the tournament
matches. The inquiry procedure is
expanded to include a Chief Official. Please
read the Tournament section in your CSAL Quick Recall manual for more information.
8.
Winning teams please report tournament results immediately by emailing csalqr@hotmail.com so they can be posted
at www.csalqr.com by the next morning.
